WIRELESS SURGE IN THE U.S. MARKET CONTINUES.

In a breaking report from RCR Wireless News, the surge for wireless in the US market continued in the fourth quarter.

T-Mobile USA reported a "company record" 1.4 million net customer additions while Verizon Wireless claimed an "industry-record" 2 million net customer additions. Cingular reported a "company record" 1.8 million subscribers during the fourth quarter.

Even more interesting? Verizon Wireless' data services revenue for the year totaled $2.2 billion. More than double its 2004 figure. This spells a turn in a marketplace that was largely biased towards voice service revenue. With data service revenue on the rise, expect more data infrastructure investments to support this trend.

Verizon Wireless reported 23.7 million data customers at the end of 2005, up 43% from 2004 and even touted that 3.5 million customers were using their higher-speed 3G network.

SPRINT USA RELEASES WIRELESS CONSUMER USAGE REPORT

According to a ground-breaking study of its customer base, U.S. mobile carrier Sprint has confirmed that a nationwide sampling of 676 consumers use their mobile devices as a makeshift torch in the dark! :-)

In addition, one third of respondents expressed a desire to play games on their phone. What was even more interesting were the places and locations where they played games. The results show that:

  • 57% played games while in the doctor's office
  • 52% played games while commuting
  • 37% played games while waiting in airport terminals
  • 32% played games while using the toilet (!)

We thank Sprint USA for sharing these findings with the wireless community. We've learned a lot today. :-)

MOBILE GAMES MEAN BUSINESS

According to an Emarketer.com intelligence report, mobile games have grown into a multi-billion dollar market.

James Belcher, Senior Analyst at Emarketer.com states that current worldwide mobile gaming revenue at $2.5 billion has confirmed that mobile gaming is not a fad.

He further concludes that markets with GSM as the dominant protocol allow developers to support the greatest number of handsets. According to www.GSMworld.com, there are over 1.6 billion subscriber's on the GSM network standard alone. Our wireless platform currently supports over 1000 mobile devices worldwide.

How do we do it? Phantom Fiber's Advanced Wireless Platform is network-agnostic and allows mobile gaming applications to work with two global standards: CDMA2000 (1Xrtt -- also marketed with some wireless providers as "1X ready") and GSM/GPRS (GPRS representing the data wireless portion of the network standard). To the game player, this network support is transparent. They only require a data wireless plan with their local wireless provider and any games powered by Phantom Fiber's Advanced Wireless Platform will simply work when they play.

Players can take advantage of play for fun and play for real money casino games from many gaming operators powered by Phantom Fiber's Advanced Wireless Platform.

Perhaps the most interesting and obvious statement from Mr. Belcher: "Powerful branding opportunities arise with the potential to reach a highly-targeted audience wherever they happen to be, including, for the first time, places outside of home and work." Gaming operators realize that reaching the customer beyond the PC is the next channel strategy to help widen their brand reach and improve customer experience and relationships. As a result, gaining a foothold on mobile phones and devices TODAY helps gaming operators extend and build their brand directly in the hands of players.
