CIO INSIGHT CONSIDERS MOBILE A STRATEGIC NECESSITY AND ONE OF THE TOP TRENDS FOR 2006.

According to CIO Insight's Trends 2006 Special issue, research concludes that "Mobile Devices Will Become a Strategic Necessity".

Furthermore, the report findings suggest that mobility allow companies to optimize their productivity and extend services. As a result, 60% of the companies polled plan to increase their mobile technology budget.

For enterprises, lower costs associated with mobility have allowed them to realize new gains with mobile technologies through improved data analysis, reduced cycle time and effective invoicing and inventory management.

Mobility was also highly regarded as a key component for a company's overall business strategy in firms with revenues less than $100 million, between $100-$999 million, and for those earning $1 billion or more.

Under business goals, CIO findings concluded that mobile devices would:
  • Improve business process (speed, flexibility, agility)
  • Increase personal productivity

In addition, enterprises perceived many benefits as a result of mobility in the following order:

  • Improve communication or collaboration among employees
  • Increased responsiveness to customers
  • Improved communication or colloboration with suppliers and partners
  • More accurate, effective data capture andanalysis
  • Reduced cycle times
  • Improved analytics
  • Faster and more accurate invoicing
  • Improved inventory management
